What does it mean to be a Bangladeshi woman in media?
Dear Saa Nasta community,
I can’t believe July is coming to an end. It feels like school just got out the other day. At our household, my family is in full fledge summer mode by doing outdoor activities, finding ways to tap into our spirituality, and cooking up dishes we enjoy. I hope that you are also finding time to reflect, rejuvenate and soak up the rest of summer.
Meanwhile, many families are still without power due to the recent thunderstorms. Stay safe out there. Don’t forget to stay hydrated during these hot temperatures in the upper 90s.
Sincerely,
Saa Nasta Newsletter
Metro Detroit Media to host an access day for people to pitch stories
Local area media agencies are calling people to attend a one-day seminar on how to pitch stories to mainstream media. That includes members of various news provider organizations from Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Black Journalists, the Detroit Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, and others. If you’re someone who has a great story to tell but aren’t sure how and where to share it, this is your chance to engage with the media and find out how to make it happen. Registration is $20.

Little Liberia pop-up to host midsummer event Sunday
An Afro-fusion food business is hosting a Liberian pop-up event at Brewery Faisan. The food is all halal and will be sold a la carte style. Little Liberia began in 2016 by chef and founder Chef Ameneh Marhaba.
“So in Liberia, when you go to a party, you’ll find things like Jollof rice, chicken wings [and] plantains,” Marhaba explains. “And I wanted to bring that because it’s part of the summer vibe, and I wanted people to be able to have that experience,” she told me for WDET.
Marhaba won $100,000 from the Hatch Detroit Contest last year. The funds will be used toward opening a restaurant in midtown Detroit, hopefully by next year.
She’ll be serving roasted lamb, plantains, and Jolof rice
The Little Liberia popup is July 30, from 4-8 p.m.
