Dose of Sugar owners open a cafe and bake shop to create a community space during the pandemic
Yasmine Montalvo and Habib Alhadai wanted to open a cafe and bake shop pre-pandemic. But when the pandemic hit they had to push their plans back until the spread of the virus slowed down.
After nearly two years Dose of Sugar opened in Hamtramck for the first time to provide a space for the community to gather.

Global Charity Teams provides services to local and international communities
Albert Montalvo created Global Charity Teams to raise money for Puerto Ricans who dealt with the side-effects of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, which ravaged the islands. Soon after the organization pivoted to providing essentials to people impacted by the pandemic. They provided hot meals, food, bookbags for kids, and hygiene kits.
Now his daughter Nadia, director and secretary, and his other daughter are taking charge to provide services to those most in need. Additional to the local services, the nonprofit is giving back to people across the globe.
