South Asian foods growing on American taste palettes
Indian food is a popular cuisine among Americans. While foods like tandoori chicken, butter chicken, and naan are popular foods that people are familiar with, some restaurants like Charminar Biryani House are holding onto traditional Hyderabadi biryani, also known as dum biryani. Others like Paradise Cafe are serving up fusion foods that appeal to people’s tastes such as masala fries and tandoori pizza. Indian food has also made a place for grab-and-go orders in Ann Arbor, through a female-owned business called Tiffin Tonight.

Hundreds died at hajj from extreme heat
Nearly 2 million people performed hajj, which was completed on Wednesday this week for the year. Muslims who are physically and financially able to afford the trip are required to make the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime. This year hundreds of people died from extreme heat — over 115 degrees. The number of deaths is growing, but the official count is around 600.
