This week we look at the 10th annual World Hijab Day started by Bangladeshi American Nazma Khan of New York, and tips from Boubí Skin to keep your skin hydrated during the winter.
Michigan Senate passes resolution to observe World Hijab Day on Feb. 1
In 2013 Nazma Khan launched the first World Hijab Day, which later became a nonprofit to educate people about why women wear hijab.
She said in an interview for WDET, “I founded World Hijab Day back in 2013 after personally being discriminated against for my head covering, also known as the hijab. I wanted to bring awareness and normalize the hijab by inviting women from every background to just to walk in my shoes for a day,” says Khan.
World Hijab Day soon blossomed to over 150 countries worldwide to show solidarity with Muslim women by people across faiths and cultures.
This year Michigan’s State Senate passed a resolution to observe World Hijab Day on February 1 in Michigan. The resolution was introduced by State Sen. Stephanie Chang to the House. She worked with Rebeka Islam, APIA Vote-MI’s Executive Director, and community members.
Try these 5 tips to keep your skin healthy in the winter

Have the dry, cold winter months taken a toll on your skin? Here are some tips you can incorporate to help your skin feel hydrated and supple!
1. Invest in a humidifier. With the heat blasting all day in our homes or offices, our skin is prone to be drier. A humidifier will help your skin, scalp, nose, throat, and eyes stay hydrated!
2. Apply creams or lotions on damp skin so it’s absorbed quicker and locked into the skin.
3. Layer your hydrating toners. In between each of your skincare steps, spritz or apply a hydrating toner to help lock and seal the hydration.
4. Use an oil as the last step of your routine. Not only does it offer extra moisture, but it also creates a barrier on your skin which keeps all your hydrating products locked in.
5. Drink water! Not only for your skin but for your overall health. Whatever you’re putting inside your body will show on the outside. So, take care of your body and keep it hydrated!
