Michigan group pays tribute to Bangladeshi community member
Dear Saa Nasta Readers,
This week we look at the legacy of a Bangladeshi community man who passed away last Friday, and explore how Muslims and Arab Americans have been coping with their mental health amid the Israel-Palestine conflict.
As we head into the new year, I hope that we’re able to move forward with peace, prosperity, and goodness.
Sincerely,
Nargis
Michigan Bangladeshi American Democratic Caucus to host memorial for Mohammad Huda
The Michigan Bangladeshi American Democratic Caucus (MI-BADC) will host a tribute to their former Vice President and General Secretary Mohammad Ruhul Huda on Jan. 7 at the Gates of Columbus in Hamtramck. Huda passed away last Friday from cancer. Huda also served as the founder and president of the Center for Dawah and Research (CDR) in Warren.
Here’s how Michigan’s Arab and Muslim communities are coping with Israel-Palestine conflict
Over 20,000 Palestinians, including over 60 journalists have been killed in the Israel-Palestine conflict leading to widespread community trauma. Now Arab and Muslim communities are looking for ways to raise concerns, speak up, and cope with the collective trauma.
Since the conflict began, groups like the civil rights organization Council on American-Islamic Relations, Palestine Legal, and Naseeha Mental Health, have seen an exponential increase in hate crimes and incidents against Arab, Muslim, and Palestinian communities. Read my latest story in Mindsite News about how these communities aim to address their mental health concerns.
