Wishing a joyous Eid Al-Fitr to those who celebrate!
Eid is a time for gathering
Eid Al-Fitr is the feast after the month of fasting called Ramadan. After two years of the pandemic, it was also the first time many people observed Ramadan together in the community.
On this day people usually take a shower, dress in new or clean clothes. They then start their day by going to Eid prayer — many of which were held at mosques across Michigan or at the park for more space — followed by visiting family and friends. As Imam Abdul Latif Azom told me for WDET, this is something that has changed after two years of social distancing during the pandemic.
This year our family did an Eid potluck for breakfast.
I had a lot of fun making my first grazing boards. I incorporated crackers, cheese, fruits, chicken nuggets (kid favorite by the way!) and some fyaazi. It was a hit!
The celebrations will continue throughout this weekend and beyond. Here is a list of places to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr in Metro Detroit.
