Bengali chef creates fine dining Indian restaurant, earns Michelin star
Sujar Sarkar is the owner of Indienne, a fine-dining Indian food restaurant in Chicago, which just won a Michelin star. The star signifies a high-quality food space, distinguishing it among other restaurants.
Indienne is the first Indian restaurant to win this recognition in Chicago. Sarkar was born in Kolkata, India, making him one of the few Bengali chefs in the world to win this recognition.
Sarkar has worked in the food industry for over 20 years. He says his concept incorporates affordable luxury food - with 100 options to choose from on the weekends. Indienne was created during the pandemic.
Sarkar says his food style is influenced by modern European and French cooking. Sarkar hopes to “put Indian cuisine on the global map.”
