Bangladeshi pizza makes national list
Amar Pizza makes it to the New York Times list of best pizzas
The Hamtramck-based Bangladeshi-owned pizza shop is a local favorite for its rich flavors like Naga Pizza, made with ghost pepper sauce. It also houses Philly Cheesesteak flavors and meat lovers’ pizza for people looking for hearty halal pizzas.
Now it’s been added to a list of “22 of the Best Pizza Places in the United States” by the New York Times, getting national recognition.
Khurshed Ahmed told the NYT:
"The idea of using Bangladeshi ingredients at Amar Pizza was born of necessity… we had to come up with something unique, to separate us.”
Amar Pizza became a staple in Hamtramck in 2010. There’s another location in Troy.
Wayne State University Board of Governors meets online

It’s been a month since the pro-Palestinian encampment has been removed on Wayne State University’s campus. This week the WSU Board of Governors met online. Students were disappointed that the meeting had been moved to a virtual setting. They were also looking for the board to address the encampment, and the police arrests and discuss the Boycott, Sanctions, and Divestment (BDS) resolution.
The board did not discuss those matters — but held two presentations about the university investments. Students for Justice in Palestine gathered at the Undergraduate Library to watch the meeting and make public comments. Students say that more work must be done to address their concerns.
