Biya Barir Chicken Roast: Creative entrepreneur Shapla Latif is a henna and makeup artist who helps brides get ready for their big day. When the pandemic hit, she began cooking up a storm like her biya barir roast, or wedding-style chicken roast. She added these recipes and makeup tutorials on her YouTube channel.

Shrimp Malaikari: Food caterer Jannatuj Khan discovered her love of cooking dishes like shrimp malaikari, a shrimp curry, after getting married and living with her in-laws in Bangladesh. That inspired her to launch a catering page online. Khan takes orders for foods like kala bhuna and various types of pitas.

Biskoot: Sister-in-laws Rukia Ali and Sanjida Uddin joined forces to make Biskoot, or cookies, to serve with tea or coffee. Given unique flavors per theme or season, the cookies became a hit during the pandemic when the ladies gave them out as gifts. Now available to order in Michigan or New York.

Desi Taste Ghee: Runa Chowdhury and Shamole Ahmed are a mother-daughter duo who opened a new business to serve homemade ghee and other foods like naga morris achar. Ahmed shares a childhood favorite recipe with us called baath biran, Bangladeshi-style fried rice featuring Desi Taste’s ghee.

Mughlai Paratha: Sharminara Haque launched her TikTok page in April 2020 where she shares stories of growing up in Bangladesh. She shares foods she learned how to cook. Her page became a popular place for people to learn Sylheti-style Bangladeshi recipes. One of those was the mughlai paratha recipe, passed down from her grandmother.

Chicken tikka biryani: Food blogger Fahmida Hasib grew up watching her mom cook. She enjoys making food for her family and sharing recipes with friends and family. One of her favorite foods is chicken tikka biryani, made with the labor of love.
